Rehabilitation Over Incarceration Purpose: To Persuade Specific Purpose: To inform and persuade the public of the inefficiency of the justice and prison system, and to offer insight and methods to both reduce the finical burden of this institution on the state and inmate recidivism while simultaneously reviving our communities left ruined by this often racist and unfair institution. Central Idea: To rework the legal and economic infrastructure of the currently broken U.S prison system by providing appropriate justice and funding to programs that actually work. In doing so we will be able to pursue justice, protect our communities, properly rehabilitate prisoners, mend broken families and save the state money all at the same time. Introduction to topic: At 19 Ronald Evans got life in prison without parole for conspiracy to distribute heroin and cocaine. Scott Earle got 25 years in Prison for providing an informant at a bar with a hook up for painkillers, even though the judge agreed the punishment did not fit the crime.
